I’m not sure how to find out the answer for some ratio and proportion questions (maths)?
I’m doing some maths revision and i don’t understand. please could someone write out the answer and method? i’d be really grateful!!
1. josie makes fruit punch by mixing juice and lemonade in the ratio 1:3,
she needs to make 24 litres of punch for a party. how much of each ingredient does she need? (fruit juice = ____litres, lemonade = _____ litres.
2. during the party josie decides she needs to make more, she has 5 litres of juice left and unlimited lemonade. how much extra punch can she make?
3. to make the second batch of punch josie adds a further 4 more litres of lemonade. what is the ratio of juice to lemonade now?
1: If you want the ratio to be unsimplified for #1, take the ratio integers 1:3 and add them together, getting 4. Divide 24 by 4, getting 6.
So you have the 24 divided into four seperate parts for each number of the ratio. One of these parts of 6 is used for the fruit juice, and the other three for the lemonade. This gives you 6 liters fruit juice, 18 liters lemonade.
#2: Take the ratio of 1:3. You have only ONE five-unit part of fruit juice. Multiply the number of liters by three: 15 liters. You add the 5 liters of juice with the 15 liters of lemonade, giving you 20 extra liters of punch.
#3: Originally you used 18 liters of lemonade instead of adding 4 more, giving you 22. You use 6 units of fruit juice and 22 liters of lemonade. Reduce it. The ratio changes to 3:11.

I misread the question for #3. After question #2, you had five liters of juice and 15 liters of lemonade. After adding 4 more liters of lemonade, you get the ratio 5:19. It cannot be reduced.
