A good brochure is an important asset in promoting your business or service. It is something that a customer or prospective customer can carry with them and refer to as needed. A well-designed and worded brochure will give a condensed summary of your business or service and what you can offer to them. It should also include any contact information and perhaps directions to locate your business. There are many things to take into consideration in order to create a brochure that grabs the consumer’s attention.
It is a good idea to work with a professional brochure designer if your budget allows. They have a lot of expertise in marketing and can help you to arrange information in a way that is eye-catching and relevant. If you are designing the brochure on your own, here are some important considerations.
The most important place to start is with the overall design itself. The front of the brochure should use a headline or phrase which will catch the consumer’s attention and want to them to read on and get more information. A great picture is also an additional detail that should not be overlooked. It should make a statement about what you have to offer. For instance, if your business offers nutritional help and advice for new mothers, a picture of an expectant mother sitting down in front of a balanced and nutritious meal might be effective in promoting that service. A money-saving idea is to take advantage of public-domain photos and clip art. They are widely available for use on the internet and you are sure to find one or several that will work for you.
You should then decide what it is you want to convey to the public. Decide the most important points you would like to get across to the prospect client. This text should be written in short, easy to read paragraphs, perhaps accentuated by bullet points to condense the material and to give it readability. Make headlines and important points stand out by using a larger font or a contrasting color. Side bars are also an effective tool. They can reiterate important information or supplement the rest of the text with statistics or helpful hints. The text itself should be printed in a font that is easy to read.
Consistency and readability should not be overlooked. A brochure that contains too much information and text or is difficult to read will just be thrown away. Don’t overcrowd or make the brochure too busy or confusing to try to read. Keep text to black or one or two dark contrasting colors. If you are printing the brochure on a dark background use white or light colored text which will stand out. If you use a background which is a photo, make sure that the photo is muted so that the text stands out, or use thumbnail photos throughout instead.
With these tips you should be able to create an effective brochure to supplement your overall marketing strategy.

Graphic Designers Brochure Questions
Experienced Graphic Designers ONLY (please) Do you think its good design judgement to use silhouettes?
I know ipod had the silhouette thing, but nowadays the only silhouette designs I really see are in powerpoint templates. My friend is making a branding system for himself and his logo is really good but for his other branding materials he wants to incorporate business people silhouettes with a blue gradient background. I told him his brochure looked like a template and not nearly as creative as his logo, but he disagrees. What do you think? (examples of what I’m talking about:
http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=Powerpoint+template+silhouettes&form=QBIR&qs=n#)
I don’t have an example of his brochure but it is very similar to the blue powerpoint designs in the above link.
My personal opinion on silhouettes is, if it’s unique, something new, it can be really eye catching. If it’s not totally unique and doesn’t grab an immediate second look I would advise him to put a logo on the bottom right, maybe incorporate a gradient spot color of his primary logo color with his business name in text.
It’s easy, and should look classy and professional. If you must use a picture make sure it doesn’t take away from the logo after all it sounds like he is still branding.
My 2 cents. Good luck with whatever he picks.
Best LENS for taking LANDSCAPE photos on a Canon 450d digital SLR camera?
I am thinking about buying a CANON 450d digital SLR camera (which comes with a bog-standard 18-55mm Lens.
I am a Graphic Designer and need to take mostly LANDSCAPE shots (beautiful scenes of local landscape and coastlines) with a Camera that will give me the Highest Quality Image Resolutions to thus be eventually used in high quality printed Large Brochures, A2 Posters, etc.
I am not a photography expert and so need some advice on Lenses:
1. Is the standard 18-55mm Lens reasonably ok for my purpose?
2. Should I purchase a new Lens that will give me better LANDSCAPES results/capability/panoramics/etc?
3. If yes, then What Type/Make/Specs/ImageStabilisation/Price of lens would be best?
Many, many thanks for any help!
The kit lens is reasonable good, but not the best.
You might want an ultra wide angle lens like the EF-S 10-22mm.
Here are some good landscape lenses and reviews:
